The example above, looking like it came from the cross-country tyre tread of a 4x4, is cut from a hard blue-black victorian pavior. It measures 160mm wide, 53mm thick and weighs 1.8kg (6.25" x 2.1" x 4lbs).
These diamond-stud brick paviors are collected and sold at reclamation yards. Very few get thrown out unless too badly damaged to sell - so I don't expect to find many for me to work with.
Smaller hearts, 10-12cm wide, and 6-9cm wide, are sometimes available.
